Colorful Eats Podcast Interview | Vulnerability & Grace in Recovering from an Eating Disorder

Reading time: 2 min.

Recovering from an eating disorder isn’t something I talk about on every podcast interview as in-depth as I did with my friend and client Caroline Potter on her brand Flourish‘s Colorful Eats podcast.

But voilà. 🙂

I was thinking about it the other day, washing down my Chick-fil-A nuggets with a Blueprint cleanse juice (weird combo, I don’t really recommend it, but I was craving it at the time): it’s so cool to me that I have no food rules now.

I don’t believe some foods are “good” and some foods are “bad,” morality qualities we’ve assigned to calories and nutrition. Through lots of therapy, I had to retrain my brain to believe calories are calories instead of measuring and counting only the “good” ones as means of control. I had to relearn how to give my body what it needed to function and be well.

I’ve talked about it before, but eating disorders are just another way some of our brains work to exert control when certain situations or lifestyles seem out of hand …

And figuring out how to let go of control is something we all have to deal with!

Learning how to manage my OCD tendencies with grace, see the Lord sustain and pull me from a really dark place, and learn how to view food without rules changed everything for me, and I dig into that a bit more than I do normally on the Colorful Eats Podcast!

Colorful Eats—and the Flourish brand we wrote copy for as we worked with Caroline—equips and empowers women with professional guidance on conscious living. Caroline knows her stuff when it comes to nutrition.

I hope you enjoy it, and this one goes out to all my fellow recovery warriors—of ALL sorts of mental health issues. Oh, and I *highly* recommend Caroline’s program “Happy Hormones,” if you’re a woman and want to understand a little bit more about how your body works. It’s fascinating!
