Author Laura Vanderkam stopped me dead in my page-turning by the pool in St. Lucia last sabbatical with thoughts on how to feel less busy.
Ready for the zinger?
When it comes to our busy-as-a-badge-of-honor, go-go-go culture, Laura’s response was worlds different:
“You have more time than you think. In 168 hours in a week, there’s time to sleep 8 hours a night and work 50 hours, if you desire. That adds up to 106 hours, leaving 62 hours a week for other things.”
Ouch, I thought. ????
I gazed into the palm trees. Where in the Sam Hill were my 62 hours of fun and games?!
Ever felt like that?
Getting to a mindset shift that I could scale my own business AND have 62 HOURS left in a week to doodle, sketch, go to yoga, cook a leisurely meal, devour books on the patio, hang out with girlfriends, grab margs + tacos with Wes, attend an evening seminar at church … that’s been a BIG shift for this recovering workaholic girl.

You don’t get there by nearly blinking out your contacts at midnight staring at a computer screen week after week. You get there by realizing your calendar is a zero-sum game: one thing wants in? Another thing’s gotta go out. Make your “yes” worth the less.
