So excited to share with you the latest podcast from my (brand new!) friend Amanda at She Did It Her Way, a podcast I first read about in Entrepreneur magazine. Getting to talk to Amanda about how to sloowwww your roll and find the payoff in settling down the hustle, so you can step back and design your own business was such a delight.

How to turn your creative passion into a paycheck as a creative entrepreneur interview with Ashlyn Carter

In Episode #184, we chatted through some tips and tricks about how you can polish up your launch copy or start a creative lettering business, sure, but pro-interviewer she is, Amanda also dug into the back story on my long (ahem, extremely messy) journey to finding a job that was more of a fit for me. She worked for the Target corporation for years, so we could relate talking about corporate life!

As Amanda noted, the adrenaline rush of hustling can be insatiable. “The payoff? Even more satisfying,” she said. “But how much longer can you go? Do you know when to take a step back?”

With that in mind, we got chatting. Tune in to hear about:

  • How to find the value in whittling down your target audience (something I learned the hard way!)
  • When to take a break from hustling so you can rest
  • The #1 thing I did to get face-to-face with experienced entrepreneurs in my market … who in turn helped me launch my business
  • What I did to transition my customer service skills and attitude according to the creative market and my clientele
  • Steps I did to figure out a price point for my services
  • How to make sure your copy is eye-catching and—more importantly—clear

She was even really kind to point out things I didn’t know I said—whoops—until it aired. 😉

“No matter what the service is that you offer, give that really elevated, high-level experience with touch points, client magazines, and gifts, making sure that it feels just as luxurious as booking any other kind of high-end service … that gives a lot of value. It helped me command the prices that I knew were worth it.”

“There’s just so much value in going for one thing, in trying to find something in a space that’s not being served.”

“If you let me, I’d work 24/7 because it is so fun for me as a business owner. You get to be the one who toggles the dials, switches things up, and tries things—I’m just kind of an addict to it at times.”

Pop over here to give it a listen, and find more stories of how other women “did it their way” on her podcast. So grateful for the stories Amanda provides to her listeners every week … and always blown away with interviewers like her, that ask all the best questions. Maybe I can learn by osmosis. 😉
