Hey! Ashlyn here, OG copywriter for creatives—reporting for duty.

Let's get you a message so tight you can bounce a quarter off of it. Around here, we serve up science-based storytelling strategies the creative set.  Even while raking in more than 1.26M in agency work since I've been at it, I firmly believe working from a place of rest (not hustle) IS possible—and I want the same for you. Words matter. Best be sure they work (and oui, with math) ... and know how to party while they're at it.

Anxiety and depression are issues I’m not afraid to talk about—I share a LOT about the redemption story God’s woven as He pulled me through recovery from anorexia and other mental illness issues.

BUT.

Anxiety’s still around, and I’ve definitely had to *still* do a lot of heart work to learn how to deal with the worry, fret, and stress this busted up planet can bring us at times. As a Jesus-follower, I’ve learned not to be surprised when I’m met with anxiety. “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” we read in John 16:33.

Applying the truths of scriptures to my worry + a mix of tips and tricks I learned in recovery have helped me so much over the years.

(And side-note, for the record, medicine is a good thing, too! I definitely remember going through a stage when I was diagnosed where I thought medicine for anxiety and depression sounded silly.  TBH, at that same stage when the doctor looked at me and said he recommended I come into the partial residential facility, I looked at him and said, “thanks, but I don’t think I’m that bad.” HA! Definitely wasn’t in a good headspace at that time. But yes, for the record, my stance is that if your arm were broken, you’d take medicine and do other things to have it be healed. If your head is broken, it’s okay to lean on medicines as a tool.)

I sat down virtually with my sweet friend and client Stephanie May Wilson to tell my story of recovery, grace, and how I’m learning to work from a place of rest, not from a place of hustle (as I say!).

If you struggle with perfectionism, if your work-life balance is totally off these days, if you are struggling with an eating disorder, with anxiety, or with depression, there’s one thing I hope you walk away from this conversation knowing: It’s exactly what I told Stephanie, “You are so not alone in this.”

That was ONE of many lies I believed when I was struggling with all of that.

I thought I was alone, because I didn’t see any of my role models or “normal” girls struggling. I felt like a “bad” Christian because I was doubting everything, even life.

Nothing is past the point of being redeemed from the pit of death, friend. NOTHING. Amen!

  2. Steven Stone says:

The way you told your story made it captivating and genuine. Thank you for that and speaking about Jesus. I am a Jesus-follower too. I especially took note of how you included it as part of the conversation you had with the reader about business and personal matters alike.

    Blessings to you and yours,
    Steve
