I’m Ashlyn, a copywriter & calligrapher, and this is no jack-of-all-trades sitch: I play favorites, and my faves are brides wanting a marriage more beautiful than their wedding (but a really pretty wedding!).
I picked up my first calligraphy kit at age 11, sat in the back of Honors Chem playing with handwriting, and started getting asked to do weddings during college. I figured I'd better make it official, so I took calligraphy under Anne Elser, and went on to study with the Atlanta Calligraphy Guild and Modern Calligraphy Summit. I'm a member of the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting (we call it IAMPETH).
My ink-stained hands and wily words have:
Tackled thousands of wedding invitation envelopes.
Landed expert etiquette wisdom for more than 29 brides.
Allowed me to replace my corporate income within 5 months of leaving my corporate job as a publicist.
Attracted 3k brides via email marketing.
When not contemplating word-nerd things like the "is it 'two thousand and seventeen' or 'two thousand seventeen' on my invitation?", I’m usually trying to scratch the ink off my fingernails or grabbing margs and tacos with my hot hubby.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?
EEEK! HOW DO I KNOW ABOUT ETIQUETTE?
HOW MANY INVITATIONS SHOULD I ORDER?
HOW MUCH DO I BUDGET FOR PAPER, AND DO YOU HAVE A MINIMUM?
WHAT ABOUT MY PRINTING OPTIONS?
Do I have time for this?
GREAT! HOW DO I GET STARTED?
WHAT ABOUT THE TIMELINE ON MAILING?
Creating an heirloom, made-to-order suite, from design to printing to shipment, takes at least nine weeks. Be sure to plan ahead -- especially if you'd like to tack on envelope addressing! And hey, if you've cut close to the timeline, reach out all the same: we may can work some magic over here!
I got you, girl! It's certainly a task choosing wording and formality -- not to mention trying to figure out address etiquette. I'll hold your hand for all this! I am more than happy to show you all of your options. We start your project with a questionnaire that covers all the details about your wedding, and we will put together wording based off several factors for you to review .
The million-dollar q, right? I tell my brides to always stick to a few more than needed. Nothing is worse than realizing the neighbors (or your grandfather!) accidentally got left off! It's suggested to order 20% more envelopes, as whomever is addressing needs room to accomodate mistakes and ink splatters.Yup, visual branding has sexy, gold-foil shiny, and peony-covered good looks. But: only 20% of your website copy is read … so that 20%’s gotta be good. Changing out call-to-action button copy can up sales by 17% … and consumers’ average attention span is now 8 seconds–1 second less than a goldfish. If you’ve not yet become a student of copywriting, you could be missing a profitable asset that could generate income. It’s a process that requires digging into the details … and I know that will turn off shiny-object seekers. But that’s ok. My obligation isn’t to them. It’s to you. The focused creativepreneur that’s wanted to scale her business with my step-by-step website writing process that allows you to replicate it.
Save the dates (and no, you don't need them) go in the mail 6-9 months out, and wedding invitations are mailed 6-8 weeks out.
Typically 5-10% of your wedding budget goes to paper. As long as we can book $1,000 worth of paper, we can do any combination of items and looks!
